Deadline Approaching for Comments on Proposed Logging in 3 State Forests!

In what is becoming an annual holiday tradition, the Division of Forestry released a swath of proposed timber sales just before Christmas.  This proposed logging would occur in YellowwoodMorgan-Monroe, and Owen-Putnam State Forests, including in the proposed Cataract and Scarce O’ Fat Wild Areas.  You can see the draft management guides by clicking on those links.

The deadlines for submitting public comments on the proposed logging are rapidly approaching: January 15th for Morgan-Monroe and Owen-Putnam State Forests, and January 17th for the Yellowwood State Forest.  While we will continue to do our best to have IFA’s comments drafted and submitted by these deadlines, we are all working overtime trying to generate massive amounts of pressure on state legislators to support Wild Areas legislation.

For this reason, it is as imperative as ever for others to submit comments on these proposed commercial timber sales.  This means you!  You can view comments that IFA has submitted in the past on the Hoosier Forest Watch website.

To submit your comment, go to http://www.in.gov/dnr/forestry/8122.htm.  In the box for “Subject or File Reference,” type the state forest name and compartment and tract number for the tract in question.  If you do submit comments, please send us a copy!

Let me know if you have any questions or need some guidance to formulating your comments.

Thanks for your dedication!

For our forests,
Myke
