Hike at Jackson-Washington State Forest

If you’ve never been — or if you know it well — take a hike with IFA in?Jackson-Washington State Forest.

At 10:00 a.m., gather at the shelter across from the Jackson-Washington State Forest Headquarters, 1278 E. State Road 250, Brownstown, Indiana.

We will take a short walk along Trail 6, to see what the forest looks like 4 years after a timber harvest organized by the Indiana Dept. of Natural Resources (DNR).

Then we will do a short (5-minute shuttle) to the Starve Hollow area, and hike along Trail 8, known as the Turkey Roost Trail. The first ? mile is up a moderately rugged/steep fire road, until we reach the top of the ridge. Portions of this trail will be closed in the near future if the latest DNR timber sale goes forward.

** Bring a sack lunch, and water. Dress for the weather.?We also plan to gather at the Brownstown Dairy Queen after the hike. **

The hike is expected to take no more than 3 hours.
