In response to the DOF’s extension of the period for receiving public comments on its’ Strategic Plan, and to raise awareness about the serious predicament of our state forests, the IFA will be holding a series of meetings in the coming weeks.? While we anticipate both a meeting in Bloomington as well as in Brown County, we would like to include folks who live in the Unionville area.
The goal of this meeting is to provide information about the increased logging within state forests and its’ impacts, share experiences, and to inform citizens about the Wild Indiana! campaign.? This campaign seeks to establish areas of each state forest? as set aside from commercial logging, and IFA hopes to generate letters and calls to? ensure our lawmakers understand that wilderness preservation is a necessity and an issue that effects not just hikers, backpackers, and landowners, but every single Hoosier.? We believe that our forests are marvelous treasures, as we know so many of you believe this, as well.
We hope to provide you with the tools to take your own actions in protecting our forests.? The Wild Indiana! campaign will not be effective in preserving wilderness areas unless each of us shares with our legislators, the Division of Forestry, and all others that our forests are critical and should be preserved.? Come join us for an evening of conversation, inspiration, and support as we come together to learn and encourage each other.? Local legend Dave Seastrum will read an opinion piece and share his sentiments on forest activism at this critical stage in our state’s history. Please plan to attend, and share what you learn with a friend, relative, and neighbor.? We need everyone’s voice!
