INDIANA FOREST ALLIANCE LAUDS END OF LINK 101

On Wednesday, the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) announced it would not be moving forward with the proposed Link 101 highway project in southeast Indiana between Markland Dam and U.S. 50.

This announcement comes after more than a year of strong opposition from local residents and allied groups such as Indiana Forest Alliance (IFA) Stop Link 101 and others.

IFA Executive Director Jeff Stant released the following statement in response:

“We are glad to see INDOT make the right decision here in halting the Link 101 highway project,” said Stant. “If the Link 101 highway had moved forward, it would have destroyed the pristine rural character of the Laughery Creek valley, devastated forests and wildlife in some of the most rugged natural habitats in our state and cut through many farms and homes. Today’s victory is a testament to the power of public comment. We owe this success to all Hoosiers in and around the proposed project area who made their voices heard in opposition.”
