Indiana State Forest Organizing Summit

How can we Hoosiers best protect our state forests?

800+ people, from all walks of life, converged on the Indiana State House to show their support for the preservation of our state forests in February. Now is the time to leverage that energy.
We’re inviting your input to formulate an effective organizing strategy.

The 2017 Indiana Forest Alliance Organizing Summit is your chance to collaborate with like-minded Hoosiers to develop an effective strategy to influence decision-makers to protect Indiana’s state forests from the unprecedented increase in commercial logging.

Toast to the Trees

Join us for Indiana Forest Alliance‘s annual gathering, affectionately known as Toast to the Trees. This will be an evening of music, food, drink and inspiration. We’ll celebrate Indiana’s magnificent forests, and re-energize for challenges ahead.

View the event on Facebook.

This year’s event will be a relaxed outdoor pitch-in under a tent at the lush Brown County homestead of IFA Member Susan Clearwater. With music by Brown County bluegrass band Hamilton Creek and beer by Bloomington Brewing Company. IFA will provide the main course: please bring a veggie, salad, side or dessert!

The highlight of the night will be remarks by Joan Maloof, Ph.D., founder of the Old-Growth Forest Network. The Maryland-based group’s mission is to preserve, protect and promote the country’s few remaining stands of old-growth forest.

Dr. Maloof is the author of Nature’s Temples, which compares the lifeforms in an ancient, undisturbed forest to those in a managed forest. Dr. Maloof has closely followed IFA’s work, especially the campaign to save Crown Hill North Woods. She also submitted testimony in support of Senate Bill 420, the piece of legislation that protects large tracts of old forest within Indiana’s state forest system.

Your $50 donation will benefit Indiana Forest Alliance.

Finding the Urban Wild

What’s our relationship to urban green space? How do plants, trees, and forests make our city and our neighborhoods what they are, and contribute to their character? What views, memories or experiences of trees will you capture in photos, paint, clay, fabric, or other materials? How do we picture what trees mean to people, in public city spaces, in the intimacy of our backyards, or somewhere in the margin?

The Indiana Forest Alliance and the Indiana Interchurch Center invite your submissions for a non-juried art exhibition: Finding the Urban Wild. The exhibition will be on display at the Interchurch Center Ary Gallery from June 29 to July 28, 2017.

There will be a party/ opening reception on Thursday, June 29 at 6:00 p.m with wine, hours d’oeuvres, and your exceptional art!

Submissions are due June 1. View submission details.
