Wanna do something about it?

The Indiana Forest Alliance is looking to build on the momentum of 2014 with a renewed energy in 2015 to protect public forests in Indianaand we are relying on you to do so.  Here is a short list of actions you can take to help us achieve our goals in the new year.

1. Join IFA.  IFA relies on contributions from our membership to continue our mission of protecting public forests in Indiana.  By becoming a member of the Indiana Forest Alliance, you will be a part of a statewide network of forest advocates who understand the importance of our public forests.

2. Call or write Governor Mike Pence to express your support for the the establishment of State Wild Areas in Indiana’s state forests.  The 13 proposed State Wild Areas make up less than 24% of all state forest acreage, but offer the best opportunity for large tracts of deep forest habitat and dispersed, wilderness-type recreation.  Governor Pence can be reached by phone at 317-232-4567; by mail at 200 W. Washington St., Rm. 206, Indianapolis, IN  46204; or by e-mail by following this link.

3. Contact your state senator and representative, and tell them to support legislation that would set aside areas of Indiana’s state forests from commercial logging for the benefit of public recreation in wild forest, as well as the type of interior forest habitat required by many threatened and endangered species.  Find your state legislator here!  Contact information for the state legislature is below:

Indiana House of Representatives
200 W. Washington Street
Indianapolis, IN 46204-2786
(317) 232-9600

Indiana State Senate
200 W. Washington Street
Indianapolis, IN 46204-2785
(317) 232-9400
(800) 382-9467

Tell your legislator:

  • unprecedented commercial logging in Indiana’s state forests is destroying the beauty of Indiana’s native hardwood forests;
  • some areas of our state forests should be set aside for all Hoosiers to hike, hunt, camp, bird-watch, ride horses, and mountain bike;
  • help protect Indiana’s rich natural heritage for future generations by supporting legislation that would establish State Wild Areas in Indiana’s state forests.
